‘Muck away’ is a generic term used to describe the removal of spoil from a construction site during earthworks operations. It is sometimes referred to as cart away and tip or muck shift and is normally required following soil strip (the excavation of topsoil, sometimes called vegetable soil), reduced-level dig, bulk excavation, trench excavation, hole excavation or pit excavation. On redevelopment sites, this operation normally involves the removal of broken up concrete, reinforced concrete, stone, brick or made ground.
Muck away is classified as hazardous, non-hazardous and inert. Inert muck is defined as ‘waste that does not undergo any significant physical, chemical or biological transformations and is unlikely to adversely affect other matter with which it comes into contact’. Inert muck away, includes brick, concrete, hardcore and subsoil. Other waste can be defined as inert, provided it is tested and meets a waste acceptance criteria (commonly known as a WAC test). Where waste does not meet the inert definition, other ways of dealing with such material includes recycling and bio-remediation.
Equip Logistics can provide all of your muck away services throughout the whole of mainland UK. We have access to the UK’s largest fleet of operated tippers and grabs, offering a rugged, robust and reliable service in the most challenging conditions. All lorries have excellent maneuverability and handling and are operated by competently trained and experienced Category N2 large goods vehicle drivers (LGV and HGV) as defined under EU Directive2001/116/EC.
Lorries without cranes or buckets (tippers) come in three vehicle types – 2, 3 and 4 axle – with respective maximum weight capacities of 10, 15 and 20 tonnes. All tipper trucks consist of the latest specification ‘Superlite’ bodies to achieve the maximum payloads for our customers. All tippers are fitted with automatic sheeting systems to ensure cleanliness on our customers’ sites. Tippers are the most economical method of inert waste removal, but you will need an excavator or loading shovel to load the trucks, normally with the minimum of a 5-tonne machine.
Lorries with cranes or buckets (grabs) also come in three vehicle types – 2, 3 and 4 axle – with respective maximum weight capacities of 8, 13 and 18 tonnes. Grab lorry drivers can ‘grab’ your waste from any location they can reach with their on-board cranes.
Equip Logistics are focused on providing a flexible and cost-effective muck clearance service, whether charging by the load, day or hour. Registered with the Environment Agency, all waste material is disposed of at registered landfill facilities.
